Auto racers create institute to help

Instituto Barrichello Kanaan encouages the rescuing of values and the family unit of children, young adults and the elderly who are in need

In order to offer technical and financial support to institutions of the third sector and consequently stop promoting assistance, the auto racers Rubens Barrichello and Tony Kanaan created IBK (Instituto Barrichello e Kanaan). Their main goal is to rescue values and the family unit of children, young adults, and the elderly. The first favored organizations were Casa do Zezinho and Projeto Sol, which together benefit about two thousand children. Christian Bartz, general director of IBK, explains that for a long time the auto racers made a great amount of money available to help people. “At a certain time, Barrichello and Kanaan came to the conclusion that their deeds should be done by means of a legal person and a detailed accessory”, he says.

From this decision on, the friendship between the race car drivers of Formula 1 and IRL (Indy Racing League) became more tight-knit. For eight months they made a technical analysis to find the best way to work and in November, IBK was officially inaugurated. Today they are seeking financial partners.

Dream
To rescue values

Kanaan says that the creation of IBK is an old dream. Barrichello also wants to promote an interaction between those who work in the third sector. “Any child’s great problem, regardless of the social class, is the lack of respect and values”, says the driver. For this picture to be changed, IBK wants to propose to the organizations the building of programs, like the ones they are investing on which focus on complementary education and sports.
